Please follow us to our new blog address at MeetTheMcFamily.blogspot.com. We're still the same McFamily, with all the familiar surroundings, just a new address.

Oh, and while I was able to transfer virtually every element of this blog to the new address, I still need your help. I'm asking that you please become one our "followers", whether you were or were not before. After you get to the new address, just look for the box "McFamily Fans" on the sidebar, and click "Follow this Blog". We really appreciate it!

All of the "old" posts will be at the new address...except for this one. Please take the time to change us in your "Blog List" from darrenandjennifer.blogspot.com to meetthemcfamily.blogspot.com. I'll keep this address up and running until everyone has a chance to see that we've moved, but there won't be any updates on here.

Have a great Monday (if that's possible)! And as always...drop us a comment or two!

...to get hosed.

Against our better judgement, we took Caroline to see Santa Claus (I added the "Claus" like there's another Santa) at the mall tonight. We got there around 5:30 and managed to beat most of the crowd. We only had to wait in line behind a few other kids, and their parents, of course.

When I got home from work today, Caroline was wearing her cute farmgirl overalls, but I quickly got her outfitted in her festive Christmas attire. Grammy bought her this cute little green corduroy A-line dress at War Eagle this fall, but since we have a future WNBA-er on our hands here, it fits more like a shirt! I gave up on trying to find red, cable-knit tights to go under it and went with some (too-short) red pants, with a sweet little ruffle on the hem. Overall, she was pretty stylish!

Here she is, "just a swangin'"...waiting for Daddy to get home!
Waiting in line with Mommy...
"Whoa! You mean I gotta sit on HIS lap?"
This is the picture they took...of course, doctored by Picnik...
And here's the one I took...with a little Picnik help...
Here's the part about getting hosed...they had a sign there that said we should "refrain" from personal photography unless we made a "minimum purchase". They wouldn't really tell us what that "minimum" was, so I just said I'd buy a picture so they'd let me take a picture with my camera. I didn't realize that I was going to be completely robbed! I ended up paying $12 for eight wallets and $19.99 for two 5x7s!! But really, can you put a price on a rite of passage like this? Then I proceeded to walk over to a little cart selling "Baby's First Christmas" ornaments for $12, with "free personalization". I didn't realize that all they were going to do was use a fine-tip Sharpie to write her name and the year on it. Seriously! I could have just gone to Wal-Mart...or better yet, Target, and done the same my crafty self!
'Tis the season...
***p.s. I miscounted the other day when I said it was my 200th post. Oops! This one really is my 200th post! Yay me! :)

Go here to see them!

Thursday, December 11, 2008

While thinking about switching things to "Thankful Thursday", I came across this quotation from Mark Twain...
"Let us be thankful for the fools. But for them the rest of us could not succeed."
I'm thinking of taking that on as my personal mantra, but with a slight change of words...
"Let us be thankful for the fools...but for them I would be unemployed."
(Please don't take this the wrong way!) I'm sure many teachers (and parents of teenagers) would agree!

Yay! It's "Talkative Thursday" again...my favorite blog-day of the week! Not that I won't talk as much as I want to any other day of the week. In fact, I'm thinking of making an executive decision and changing it up...I think "Talkative Tuesday" sounds better...and perhaps making it "Thankful Thursday" instead. Only downfall about that is there is much more to say on a Thursday than on a Tuesday. Anyway, we'll just have to see what happens. One thing I know for sure...I don't think I'll be featuring "Wordless Wednesday" on a regular basis. Too much going on in this girl's mind...gotta get it out when the mood strikes...and the mood just might strike on a Wednesday. Enough said. (Ha!)

Found a neat meme (new vocab!) on another blog today. Don't really remember where, but I liked it so I copied it. Here it goes...if I tag you, I apologize in advance if you don't like this sort of thing...but PLEASE just play along! :)

File this under "reader questions"...
In case you ever want to post from e-mail, here is how to set it up:

Go into "Settings", then click on the "Email" tab.

Look for "Mail-to-Blogger" and create a secret word to put in the empty box.

Now you can send a post to that address (yourusername.secretword@blogger.com).

Your e-mail title will be the post title and the body of your e-mail is the post.

If you have a signature or footer on your e-mail that you don't want to show with your post, just type #end at the end of your post.

It's very easy to do! Give it a try!

I'm trying to see if I can post from my email...Well, off to see if it worked! :)

a few seconds later...
***Woo hoo! Apparently it did!***

...cereal, that is...
Caroline had her first encounter with a bowl and spoon tonight! She tried a little rice cereal after her dinner-time bottle. Not much actually made it into her mouth. In fact, I'm pretty sure she ingested less than one teaspoon. But, you've gotta start somewhere!

"What you say?"
Before her cereal dinner tonight, Caroline went to Dr. Cheshier's for her 4-month checkup. She is doing GREAT! She is up to 16 lbs, 2 oz (75th-90th %), 26 1/2 inches (>95th %), and her head circumference is 41 cm (25th-50th %). What exactly does this mean? According to Daddy, she's going to be a great post player...with a peanut head! :)
Here she is, showing off her battle scars...3 shots! She was a real trooper!

No, I do NOT want this man for Christmas! I just want (and need) some patience!!! Apparently, the picture above illustrates the ASL (American Sign Language) symbol for the word "patient". One of my co-teachers and I have been going around giving eachother this sign for the better part of the day...since we learned it. I desperately need a little patience! (yea-ahh...)(I hope y'all got that lame attempt at a GnR reference!)

Here's part of the reason~~~Today in class I gave them a question to answer (in writing) and specifically told them "Your answer must be in COMPLETE SENTENCES!" It was written out exactly like that. A hand pops up..."Yes?"..."Can I answer it with a t-chart?"...and that is why I am in need of PATIENCE!!! There are countless other reasons, but it wouldn't be productive to think about them. Come to think of it, this isn't very productive either.

Just for kicks...a trip down memory lane. May the song "Patience" get stuck in your head, too!

***Oops...I counted wrong!***
Woo Hoo!!! This is my 200th post!!!
I knew this was coming up soon, but didn't realize this was it until after I published it! I didn't recognize my 100th post...I'd actually have to go back and count to find it. I can't believe I've had this much to say (or maybe I haven't) since I started this in January. Yay me! :)

I've seen so many good blog-Mommies out there who periodically write down all the little things they want to remember about the particular stage their baby is in. I think about these things non-stop, everyday...but have just never gotten around to putting them down on paper (or screen, as it were). I feel bad about this, since Caroline will be 18 weeks tomorrow. I guess I have some consolation in the fact that we have a picture of her from nearly EVERY day of her life!

Anyway, I've decided to TRY (that's the operative word) to make a weekly post dedicated to my "favorite things" about Caroline. I've decided to title it "Weekend Update"...as in, SNL's famous skit with my all-time favorite comedian, Dennis Miller. Sadly, Dennis Miller will not be featured in these posts, but I'm taking the name, nonetheless. Here goes:

Things I love about Caroline...

*the sweetness of her breath

*her snoring

*how she snorts when she's excited

*the fact that she has "my" nose

*all of her brown hair that I can put a real bow in

*how happy she is when she's getting her diaper changed

*the fact that she's totally enthralled by a ceiling fan

*the fact that she started sleeping through the night at 8 weeks!!!

*how cute she is when she sucks her thumb/fingers/hand
*and lastly...I love this picture!

I'll be back with more next week! (You may just have to remind me!)

I've been seeing this pop up on many of the blogs I follow, and I finally decided to give in and give it a go...Now, let me think up what I haven't done in the recent past:

I have NOT been neglecting my "low-carb lifestyle" at all since Thanksgiving...I've been on the wagon the whole time!

I have NOT been procrastinating at all lately, in any area of my life...work, housework, Christmas shopping, Christmas decorating, Christmas card addressing...it's all getting done in a timely manner!

I certainly did NOT let my child wear, then sleep in, then wear again the next day the same short sleeve onesie under her clothes. (Really, how dirty does a 4-month-old get...when she hasn't had a major explosion in her diaper...)

Last week, I promise I did NOT have a student get some colored copy paper out of a cabinet for me because I had seen a cockroach in there earlier in the day. (Sorry Kelli if you are reading this...I thought of you when it happened, and realized that you probably would have gone home sick if it had happened to you! :)

Lastly, I did NOT sit and watch two episodes of "The Real Housewives of Orange County" yesterday afternoon. I mean, seriously, who watches that kind of mindless nonsense?! NOT ME!

So...what have you NOT done lately?

...to avoid the paparazzi! Ugh!

She thinks she's a little celebrity...

Saturday, December 6, 2008

Before heading to breakfast at Calico County...
After...we are cultivating quite the little couch-potato...except she doesn't really sit on the couch yet...make that Boppy-potato
Oh, and since you can't read it I have to tell you that her shirts says "gorgeous (just like my mom)"...

Friday, December 5, 2008

It seems like just yesterday that we were in Barnes & Noble in Tulsa, waiting for a phone call that would change our lives forever. Then it came...I made him answer it. I walked a few aisles over. Then I heard the best sound ever (up to that point in my life)..."Yes!!!!" he shouted as he pumped his fist in the air...in the middle of the bookstore. I was pregnant! That was a year ago, Wednesday...December 3, 2007. Fast forward to this...

Caroline Addison...4 months old (12.5.08)
She and George a becoming quite good pals these days!

Okay, I lied, I do have some words. Like...does anyone care to take a stab at which U.S. city this Burger King is located in? I'd be interested to see some of your guesses. I hope it's not your city. If so, I don't blame the teachers...in fact, I'd say "bless their hearts" for not having much raw material to work with! It's stuff like this (and this) that encourage me to carry my small, point-n-shoot camera with me at all times!

Thursday, December 4, 2008

As promised...here's the latest on Caroline. She's been "talking" to her friend George...and anyone else who'll listen...okay, actually she'd do it even if nobody was listening! Enjoy!

I swear, she's not in pain, even though it sounds like it...

I'm stealing this from Sarah...just like I stole "Wordless Wednesday" from her yesterday. Except I like this MUCH more!! :)

~~~
I realized I probably sounded pretty desperate in my last post from last night. Oops! I just would like to hear from all the interesting people who check us out, so I can check them out, too. Don't get me wrong, I lurk on others' blogs, too...but I'm making a concerted effort to "meet" them by leaving a comment. Anyway, enough of sounding like a loser...
~~~
I have absolutely NO patience today! I feel bad because I have been very short and sarcastic with my kids lately. My school kids, that is. I even had a girl tell me the other day "you always be so sarcastic". Ooh, that hurts! (see, there I go!) I need to try to focus and just be kind, right? Well, that's easier said than done. Pray for me.

~~~
The title of this post could also apply to Caroline! She has found her voice, as Darren likes to say. She "talks" (read screams) all the time these days. It's hilarious! I'm planning to post a video of it on here, if I can figure out how to do that!
~~~
I don't have a good picture to go with my "Talkative Thursday" title, so I'll just post some random stuff I found in some folders...

~~~
Yes, this will be in front of my house until New Year's Day
(I know it's tacky, but I couldn't resist!)
I did not take this picture. I don't know these people. I got this in an e-mail...the photo is titled "Genius" and I think it's hilarious...
This is me in 2006...before fertility drugs and pregnancy. I used to be (relatively) skinny and very tan. This will never be again...and it makes me very sad :(
***Just had to add this*** This morning when I was commenting on a friend's blog, the "random" letters that came up on the little "word recognition" thing were BLESS!!!!! Somehow, that didn't feel very random to me! :)
Wednesday, December 3, 2008
So really...I know lots of people are lurking out there reading this blog! And I'm happy about that. But I wish y'all would talk to me already! How can I come check out your world if you don't leave me some sweet comments (so I know who you are)?! :) Come on...talk to me please!
Nighty-night...
~Jen~
Good Lord...you'd think it was cold or something!
Okay, these don't count as words...I'm going to try this out...I've seen it on other blogs...
(I talk TOO much, huh? )
...how CUTE is this child??? I really thought she'd get pissy about the hat, but she didn't mind at all. Now the mittens...that's another story. Not havin' it!
Oh, and here's the new coat Caroline got tonight. It was tough choosing between a classic red and this sweet fuschia color, but since her hat and mittens have pink, we went with this one.
Not sure that it'll fit yet, but it's definitely sassy! Can't wait to try it on her!
