Today was Caroline's first Thanksgiving! Unfortunately, since she's only 16 weeks old, her turkey dinner was more like a Similac/apple-prune juice dinner. Yes, you read correctly, Caroline is now an apple-prune juice connoiseur. Since she transitioned to a formula-only diet last week, her little system has not quite adjusted yet. For those of you who don't know, mother's milk acts as a natural laxative...therefore, a lack of such natural laxative leads to a not-so-happy baby girl! After a rough night trying water, baby suppositories, and a call to the nurse this morning, Daddy came to the rescue! I won't go into the details about his "technique"...you can ask him about that yourself if you are brave enough. Let's just say that by the time I returned from the grocery store with the apple-prune juice suggested by the nurse, Caroline's (and Mommy's) misery was over. I think I was more stressed out by Caroline's "condition" than she was! Anyway, here are some pictures from her day...
Playing with cousins Lola and Jonas... Getting "petted" by cousin Lola...even though it looks like she's pulling her hair...she's really not!
Mid-sneeze...
Hanging out with my Papa! (Papa John...funny...ha ha!)

I was Yahoo-ing a certain "how-to" question today when I stumbled upon this cool site called "Cut Out + Keep"! It's dedicated to helping those of us creativity-challenged people who insist on trying to be crafty. Here are a few of my faves so far!

Recycled Wrapper Baby Bib

Let me just say that most of what you find on this site is very homemade looking, but there are some techniques worth checking out.

Welcome to the Christmas edition of "Getting to know your BLOG friends"!!
Here's what you're supposed to do, and try not to be a SCROOGE!!!
Copy and paste this into your blog post, delete my answers, and insert yours! Then leave me a comment telling me that you posted yours! :)
1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?
I really enjoy wrapping gifts when I have the time/space, but cute gift bags are great too! We'll have to see how much time I have this year with Caroline...

2. Real tree or Artificial?
Artificial AND pre-lit...all the more easier for this gal!!!
(going to get a new tree today!!! 9-footer, baby!)

3. When do you put up the tree?
Weekend after Thanksgiving

4. When do you take the tree down?
New Year's Day (funny story about that, though...my neighbors once left their tree up until Valentine's Day b/c they were in a "stand-off" over who was going to take it down and put it away...he even unplugged the tree to use the extension cord, but didn't take the tree down! Reminds me of the suitcase episode of "Raymond")

5. Do you like eggnog?
ehh, not so much

6. Favorite gift received as a child?
Tie between Strawberry Shortcake lunchbox (4 yrs old) and Barbie Dream House (2nd grade)

7. Hardest person to buy for?
my mom

8. Easiest person to buy for?
Darren, Caroline (I know...I'm a loser...buying gifts for a 4-month old baby who will never even know!)

9. Do you have a nativity scene?
no, but I would like to find one that I could keep for a long time

10. Mail or email Christmas cards?
Mail

11. WORST CHRISTMAS GIFT U EVER RECIEVED?
I got a (fake) lump of coal in my stocking when I was 4 years old...parents had been threatening me for weeks if I didn't "straighten up and act right"...but really, I carried it around in my little purse forever after that. I didn't even get the whole "lump of coal" thing back then...didn't know it was a punishment.

12. Favorite Christmas Movie?
Christmas Vacation (I second that one, Sharon!)...followed by "Elf" as a very close second ("I just like to smile. Smiling is my favorite."/ "We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup.")

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas?
Around Thanksgiving

14 . Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?
Yes (please, don't tell on me!)

15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?
green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, canned cranberry sauce/gel

16. Lights on the tree?
white, please!

17. Favorite Christmas song?
"Oh, Holy Night"...my favorite since I saw "Home Alone" in 8th grade

18. Travel at Christmas or stay home?
both...Christmas Eve, Midnight Mass, Christmas morning at home, then make the rounds to Ozark and Mulbery, then up to Wichita for a few days...when Caroline gets bigger, they've gotta come to us!

19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer?
probably not

21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning?
Morning, day, and night!

22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year?
Too many people running around and driving too slow! (and kids at school whining about NOT having a "party")

23. Favorite ornament theme or color?
Red, and anything with nostalgic meaning (like the ones I made when I was a kid)

25. What do you want for Christmas this year?
for time to stand still and Caroline to be a sweet little baby forever! :) (oh, and peace on Earth and all that other good stuff!)

Have you ever done anything that made you instantly feel like a teenager again? Well, that's how I felt going to see "Twilight" this weekend. I read the original book last fall and LOVED it! I finished it in about 2 days. I made it through the second book "New Moon" fairly quickly, but didn't like it quite as much. I was excited to move on to "Eclipse"...but ended up putting it down about half way through and didn't finish it until 9 months later. Now, I have been stalled out in the middle of "Breaking Dawn" for about 3 months. I'm so disappointed in myself.
Anyway, I went to see the movie Sunday afternoon, with 4 other grown women. We were almost swooning as we walked out of the theater! We are definitely all on "Team Edward"...I won't bother to explain...if you've read the book or seen the movie, you'll understand! :)

This morning Darren and I were watching VH1 Classic (our fave) when the video for "Pretty in Pink" by the Psychedelic Furs came on. It's the theme song from the movie of the same title...another fave of mine. I'd never noticed it before, but the song is about a girl named CAROLINE, and how she's "pretty in pink"!!! How sweet, huh? Well, I'm going to think of it as sweet...even though I looked up the lyrics and saw for myself that the girl in the song really isn't that sweet. You can check it out for yourself, but I'm just going to keep imagining it's about a cute little, pink-wearing, baby girl named Caroline! :)

Caroline has been working on sitting up in her Bumbo this week. She manages to make it a few minutes before getting completely frustrated. Is it just me, or does she look like she's riding a mechanical bull? Maybe she takes after her Mommy and Daddy...

Yes, this is us a LONG time ago... and by the way...did you know they make you sign a release form to ride this thing?

Against Daddy's wishes, I made a flower headband for Caroline. He thinks she looks silly with a flower "bigger than her head", but I think it's pretty darn cute! What do y'all think?

Like the new background? Just felt like a little change...
Thoughts or comments?

Caroline's new pal "A" came home with his parents yesterday, and today they met with the judge to finalize the adoption process!!!
WELCOME HOME!!!!!
I love this picture!
I imagine he must have known he was coming home with his Mommy and Daddy!

Caroline has a new cousin in California! Too bad it'll be so long until she gets to meet him. :(
Hunter Ray Mc~ was born on 11/18/08 at 3:40 pm.
He was even smaller than Caroline, at only 6 lbs, 2 oz, and 19 inches. We wonder how long she'll be bigger than him, though. Uncle Tad (Daddy's brother) is 6'5" and Aunt Melissa is not short either, so we're thinking it won't be too long before baby Hunter starts catching up!
Seeing how he "measures up"...

The West Coast McFamily...Aunt Melissa, Cousin Hunter, and Uncle Tad!

We've been studying the Constitution in class...specifically, the Preamble. Here's a few videos to show you what's been going on at school. The first one is stuck in my head NIGHT and DAY!!! The second one I found this morning, and it absolutely CRACKED ME UP! I showed it to the kids and they thought it was great!

Just wanted to prove how much Caroline looks like her Mommy...
Like mother...
...like daughter!

My photographer friend, Leigh Ann, just "tagged" me in a game of Picture Tag. I'm supposed to post the 4th picture in the 4th folder on my computer. Well, once I figured out where to go on my computer, this is what I ended up with. I have LOTS of folders with pictures. Here is a sampling of the 4th pictures from different 4th folders...

Caroline's newest hairbow (handmade by Mommy) was inspired by a sweet blogger named Kelly and her baby girl on the way, Harper! I'm totally obsessed with this giraffe print!
(I "treated" this photo with the "1960s" effect on Picnik...cool, huh?)
And while we're on the topic of giraffes...I think we might be growing one right here in our house! Caroline is already starting to outgrow some of her pants and rompers. They are just too short! This little giraffe romper is a 3-month, but even though there's plenty of room in the body, Caroline looks like she's wading through a flood! I'm pretty sure this was not meant to be a capri-length romper. Looks like we are starting the battle of too-short pants that Mommy fights!

Here's a peek at Caroline's new pal, "A". His parents will be bringing him home next week...they have waited SOOOO long for this special day! So have we!
He is TRULY the answer to many prayers!!!

Mrs. Mc (me): "Not everyone will have a paper on their desk right now because you worked with a parter or group, and they might have the paper."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Student: "Mrs. Mc, what do I do? I don't have a paper on my desk right now!"
UGHHHH!!!
Some of my latest experiments with Picnik...
Here's one of Caroline's future boyfriend, Joe, on his 1st birthday...he's lovin' the book she got him!
...like daughter! Sunday afternoon football...
In addition to my afore mentioned obsession with Picnik.com, I've also taken up hairbow-making! Here's what I've been up to for the last 2 weeks. I keep telling Darren that every bow I make saves us at least $5.oo...he still makes fun of me, though. I am now obsessed with ribbon and buy a new color or pattern every time I go to Wal-Mart. I'm normally not a very crafty person, but I found a few good videos on the internet to help me learn how to make these bows.
Caroline looks oh so sweet in all of them.
p.s. Can you tell I "picnik"ed this photo? So cool...I [heart] picnik!
We met up with our favorite photographer friend this weekend, and here are some of the best shots. She took these at a local nursery and we were so glad that there was still such beautiful foliage as a backdrop. It was pretty chilly out that morning, so we were glad to get such good shots of Caroline. She didn't smile in any of them, but she looked at the camera in almost every picture. It was also a perfect time to take some 3-month photos of Caroline. We are hoping to do more at 6 months, maybe 9 months, and then for her 1st birthday!
Check out that double chin!!
Wearing her favorite leopard-print bow...made by Mommy!
The face she's making in this one cracks me up!
I don't know about y'all, but I was a HUGE Bill Cosby fan when I was a kid, and even now. In fact, Darren and I saw him perform live in Little Rock back in March. But that's not exactly what I'm here to talk about. It does involve Cosby, though. He had an old routine about snotty-nosed kids called "Glazed Doughnut Monster"...does anyone else remember it?
I'm fearful that little Caroline may be fixing to go through her first bout with the "Glazed Doughnut Monster". She has been very "snotty-sounding"...no runny nose yet, but lots of sneezing and we're finally able to get something out with the famed "booger-bulb". Poor baby, I've been having to wipe her nose, too. I suppose this is the start of those age-old battles between a child's nose and a tissue...or in her case, a wipe. {sigh}
Recognize this 'do?
see the resemblance? ;)
I love, love, love Picnik!!! As I mentioned in a previous post, it's an incredible online photo editing program. You can use it for free, or pay about $25 to get more options and more storage space. I'm sure you can guess that I've already paid for the upgrade! I can't wait to start getting some of these printed and framed! It's just so easy and fun to play around with all the possibilities!
