I started a blog especially for the babe a few months ago, and hope to keep up with it, in addition to our current blog here. Check it out sometime if you get a chance...I'm putting in on our bloglist.
Here's a link to "Daddy's Little Caddy"...

38 weeks

The first thing that crossed my mind when I saw these pics was "Wow, I look tired!"...the second thing was "I was wearing that in my 37-week picture". So I guess I'm running out of steam and clothes to wear! I also don't notice much difference between the size of my belly from one week to the next, even though the nurse says I gained 4 pounds over the week. It's definitely NOT all going to the babe. Oh, well...I suppose I'll get over it.

Well, our girl is making progress! So much so that the doc asked us today if we'd like to come in next week to be induced! Naturally, we said YES! Could you imagine a planner like myself turning down an opportunity to have just a little more control over this situation? So, even though our due date is August 10, the doc said we would be good to go on Tuesday, August 5!!!
We go in a 6 am...hopefully, we'll have her here by the end of the day!

So, yeah, I think the post title says it all!
Except I already know where she is...{sigh}.

Last week we had the great opportunity to have some maternity photos taken by a friend of mine, Leigh Ann Hasley. She's a very talented photographer who specializes in families, children, and seniors. I'm only posting one photo right now, but will post a few more in the next day or so. Darren and I are struggling to choose our favorites from the session and get some ordered in the next week.

(I love this one...taken in one of the doorways at Judge Parker's courthouse...)

I got adventurous this morning and decided we needed a little makeover (again)...Do you like the new layout? Comments...thoughts...?

Here's the big belly a few days ago at 37 weeks! Hopefully, she'll decide to make her arrival in the next week or two. This Sunday will be 2 weeks left until the official due date.

I decided to "bump" this old post from last month in the hopes of getting some more participation. Feel free to share your predictions on the babe's birth stats (if you haven't already)!

Okay, so whenever the babe's ready to arrive, she's got a place to stay! In addition to showing off the finished nursery, I'm using this post to showcase all the great goodies we got from "Keep It Gypsy" (formerly Snug as a Bug) in downtown Fort Smith. They were able to customize all kinds of things so that they would all match/coordinate. I highly recommend stopping in and seeing the girls down there and taking advantage of their custom services!

The finished product...
Bedding and wall-hanging from Keep It Gypsy
Large diaper bag...matches bedding
Small diaper bag...can double as a handbag
Three diaper bags and wall-hanging all from Keep It Gypsy
Baby book and picture frame...both shower gifts from Keep It Gypsy

Burp cloths were also a shower gift

This is the much-recommended "bouncy seat" that will allow Mommy to take a shower

Here's the swing that matches the carseat, stroller, and pack-n-play...Hope she'll enjoy it!

Yes, it's true, we are engaged....just not like that! (Geez, we're already married!) We got the good news yesterday at my 37-week appointment that the babe's head is down and quite low! *Hence, the term "engaged".*
Good girl...keep up the great work!

I am barely dilated so far (only about 1/2 cm), but I am 60% "thinned out"! For those of you not so familiar with childbirth terminology, this means that something is going on in/down there. Of course, no guarantees that she'll be here any sooner, but at least she's got the right idea of what she's supposed to be doing!

I'm looking for some help from y'all out there in cheering her on...we'd love it if she made a slightly early arrival!

Just call me "Mrs. Clean"! I never truly believed the fabled "nesting instinct" would ever kick in for me...but, HOLY COW, has it ever!! Although my co-workers might think I'm something of neat-freak, because of how I stay fairly organized at school, they might be surprised to know that the trait doesn't exactly carry over to my home. We don't live in squalor by any means, but I really hate housework and will usually find a way to skimp on it at any chance.

However, pregnancy hormones seem to trump all of this! Just ask Darren...I have been on a serious cleaning spree for about the last 2-3 weeks. What really sucks about this happening at this point in pregnancy is that you physically can't really do much. Forget about getting on your hands and knees and scrubbing floors, toilets, or tubs...it ain't happening! After hearing my plans to hire somebody to come scrub the kitchen and bathroom floors, Darren's urge to "pinch a penny" kicked in, and he offered to do the job himself...so long as I didn't "boss him around" (his words). He did a wonderful job, too! I am even so obsessed with cleanliness that I insisted that we needed brand new toilet seats...cleaning the old ones wasn't enough.

Now, I know that the babe won't be crawling around on the floors for quite a long time, but I guess the need for clean comes from the fear that I'll never have time to do it again once she arrives. I was working on that hypothesis myself when I read almost those exact words in my favorite pregnancy book "Pregnancy Sucks". I highly recommend it to any preggo girls out there! Along with "The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy". Both tell you all the little secrets (as well as the well-known basics) of being a preggo girl...but with a generous dose of humor mixed in. I just picked up "The Girlfriend's Guide to the First Year" last week. I am sad, happy, and scared about the prospect of entering this new phase...moving on from pregnancy books to parenting books.

Being pregnant is one thing...being a PARENT is a whole 'nother thing!!

What have I gotten myself into?

36 weeks

Holy cow! I'm actually posting these on time! Here's me (us) at 36 weeks, 2 days.
Only about 3 1/2 more weeks to go...hopefully a little less than that!
(Please ignore the side "roll"...)

This was the second reading in mass yesterday. It is perfect for my current place in life. Actually, the first line is perfect for about the last 5 years of my life. I just wanted to share it...
Brothers and sisters:
I consider that the sufferings of this present time are as nothing
compared with the glory to be revealed for us.
For creation awaits with eager expectation
the revelation of the children of God;
for creation was made subject to futility,
not of its own accord but because of the one who subjected it,
in hope that creation itself
would be set free from slavery to corruption
and share in the glorious freedom of the children of God.
We know that all creation is groaning in labor pains even until now;
and not only that, but we ourselves,
who have the firstfruits of the Spirit,
we also groan within ourselves
as we wait for adoption, the redemption of our bodies.

I'm a bad, bad blogger...It's taken me almost a week to post my latest belly pic! It's already time to take this week's pic, but I haven't done it yet. Anyway, here's a shot of my belly at 35 weeks. I still don't think I look that far along, but I definitely feel it! I also have this "feeling" that she'll be here sooner rather than later...if we're lucky! :-)

Upon the fast-approaching arrival of the McBaby, we are looking to change the name of our blog from "Darren & Jen's World" to something more inclusive of our new addition. We've got a few ideas in mind, but thought we'd open it up to our blogging friends to help with suggestions. So, come on, put on your thinking caps and let us know what you think!

Sunday, July 6, 2008

Darren and I spent some more time last week making preparations for the McBaby. Everything from doing a little laundry and organizing the closets (me) to installing the video baby monitor (Darren). We officially still have 5 weeks until she's due to arrive, so hopefully we'll get everything in place in the next couple of weeks...just in case she wants to show up early!

This is the nursery closet...it still needs some major organization!
This is the hallway linen closet...it's getting pretty close to done. Almost time to start using all those diapers and wipes!
We obviously have an over-abundance of bathing supplies...I'm actually afraid there's more of this in her bedroom closet!

It took just a little time to figure out the proper installation of the video monitor...

But Daddy finally got it right! Can you see the little "baby" in the crib?

Here's the "baby" from the monitor...it's really Miss Piggy!

I was just reminiscing about the little "cousin reunion" that Sarah, Julie, and I had last July in Kansas City. It included shopping, beer-drinking, and lots of laughter. Here are a few photos from last July, along with one from our baby shower this past weekend at Sarah's house.

Fast forward to this summer...
Different hair lengths/colors, and a fatty preggo girl in the middle! :-)

We had our 5th and final baby shower last weekend (6/28) at Joe and Sarah's house in Kansas City. Sarah and another of my cousins, Julie, were the official hostesses, making sure there were games, prizes, and plenty of good food...and more importantly to our family, good BEER! Too bad I couldn't partake in that. Anyway, the shower was kind've like a mini family reunion as well. With 12 "kids" in the McCaffrey clan, it's virtually impossible to get everyone in the same place at the same time. However, we were able to assemble 7 of the 12 McCaffrey kids...which as Darren and Joe have declared "over 50% automatically constitutes a wild time"! Four of the aunts and 3 of the uncles were there...some even with their spouses and children. There were even quite a few of us grandkids (and some spouses), and a great-grandchild, my nephew Kedrin! Whew, that's quite a crowd. You should have heard the howling and cackling coming from that house! The various guests had made it in from several states: Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Michigan!

We were overwhelmed at all of the sacrifices everyone made to celebrate with us!!

Sarah, me, and Julie

Joe and Darren
A group shot of the wild gang...

Julie planned a game that involved Darren and I tasting and identify various baby foods...

Sniff test...

Getting ready to taste...

Oh, I definitely didn't like that one!
Now, it's Darren's turn...
I don't think he liked the peas...
We really liked the "diaper cake" with the piggie topper from Julie...
Sadly, this was our last baby shower cake...I'll really miss all the cake! :-)

A few of the McCaffrey "grandkids" (plus some spouses & a great-grandchild)
A semi-complete family photo...this is probably only about 1/3 of all the McCaffrey clan!
Nice how they put the big preggo girl in the front, huh?
