Check out the latest addition to our "Faves" list on the sidebar.
I'm either just very anxious for August to get here, or I've just got way to much free time!

Well, we made another step towards completing the McBaby's nursery today. We ordered a glider/swivel/recliner (chair) for her room. Can't wait to actually sit in it...instead of just looking at it in a catalog! Darren thinks he won't be spending much time in the nursery, but he might think again when he feels the comfort of "the chair"!

We ordered this chair in a color called "wheat"...kind've a neutral, taupe color.

Naturally, the McBaby and I won't be blonde-haired and blue-eyed (nor will our names be Laura and Grace), but you get the idea...

Who's Who?

Here are some belly updates for this week...going into "week 24".
And now introducing the "bare belly"!

Side-by-side comparisons...

Here's a tough one...Who's who? :-)

Here's a picture from last Sunday, when I hit the 23 week mark...I swear I'm getting bigger every day!

I stumbled upon this old article (July 2002) on a site called www.seattlepi.com. Extremely fitting, given my husband's Cubs obsession and our little one's future middle name... {grin}

Sammy, Kerry and Addison

Tricia Lepse might be the coolest wife in Seattle.
When she and husband Dan welcomed their first child five years ago, Dad, a Seattle native but an over-the-top Cubs fan, wanted to name the baby girl Sammy after outfielder Sammy Sosa. They agreed that her full name would be Samantha and her nickname would be Sammy.

Two years later came another baby girl. After wrestling with it, Tricia agreed to call her Kerry, after Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood. Today is Kerry's third birthday.

In January, the Lepses had a third child -- a girl, of course. Viable Cubs names for girls were running thin. This time Tricia came up with the name: Addison, after the street on the Wrigley perimeter that runs down the first-base line.

It might be best they haven't had a boy.

"He had really discussed Ernie (Banks) as a boy's name," Tricia said. "Ryne (Sandberg) I could even deal with, but Ernie I just couldn't get my head around."

Dan Lepse's mental condition began when, on his seventh birthday, he went to see the Tacoma Cubs, then Chicago's Class AAA farm team. A year after the Seattle Pilots left, he was looking for a favorite team. The next year his family went to a doubleheader at Wrigley Field, and there was no turning back.

So began 30 years of the glorious misery only the Cubs can provide.

"It's like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football," he said. "Lucy keeps pulling the ball away, but he keeps trying. With the Cubs you always know the inevitable is going to happen, but you keep going."

Little by little, he pulled Tricia into his futile obsession. Dan proposed on Opening Day 1993, dropping to one knee underneath the famous Wrigley Field sign at the home-plate corner of Addison and Clark. A Chicago TV crew captured the moment.

"I guess I realized at that point that (the team) was going to be the guiding force in our relationship," said Tricia.

They registered for their wedding with a request for anything red, white and blue. Their kitchen has a Cubs theme, with red and blue dishes, a framed Sandberg photo over the oven and replica street signs for Addison and Clark on the wall.

As you might have surmised by now, the Lepses will be in attendance at Safeco this weekend.

"I think the great fear is that one day you'll decide to bail on the Cubs or jump off the bandwagon, and that's the day they'll win," Dan said. "It's pride in loyalty. There are pockets of fans all over the country, so it's a shared thing. You meet somebody else who's a fan and you wink and you say, 'Wait till next year.'"

Not a whole lot going on in my world these days...Aside from STRESS about missing the first 2 months of school!!! I'm really trying to stay calm, but all I keep thinking about is total CHAOS when I return in October. October has traditionally been one of my favorite months of school, because my students are "trained" by then...meaning they generally know all rules and procedures, and a good stern "look" usually puts them in their place.

I'm trying to figure out just exactly what information to leave for my long-term sub (assuming they actually do find one for me), and whether the person will be competent enough to carry out the necessary duties! For those of you who may not already know, I'm a bit of a control-freak when it comes to my classroom and students. My motto is "Students thrive on structure and order!"

So now, instead of them being trained by October, I guess I'll have to shoot for Christmas Break! Wish me luck! {sigh}

Color

I thought we could use a little color around here after that last post...

Darren and I went up to Darby this morning to survey the storm damage.
I have NO idea how they would have had school there today!

This was a tree down the block from Kimmons...

I didn't realize I had taken this picture the other day, but it is TOO CUTE not to share! How often do you really get to see a dog SMILE??? What a sweet Molly girl!

...I'm NOT just fat anymore! I had to use this as a post title because I saw it on a maternity t-shirt at Wal-Mart last week. Classy, huh? I finally made Darren take a side-profile picture of me last night. Today I am officially 22 weeks, and this past Friday I was technically 5 months pregnant by the calendar. The whole weeks v. months thing seems confusing to "outsiders" so I guess I'll try to go by months for the pregnancy rookies out there. Time is just ticking away...

p.s. A few new "artistic" shots of Molly...who, by the way, thinks she is a human...for those who don't already know that! :-)

HAVE YOU SEEN ME?

Well, the first week of the 2008 baseball season has come and gone and the curse of the Cubs has started AGAIN. 15-15-3 during spring training gave me hope. But, going into the 2nd game of a 3 game series with the 'Stros, we are sitting at 1-3. Why? The only bright spot has been the play of Fukudome. He is a stud in right field. Right now, the Cubs can't hit, pitch, or even play dead. I would love to see us end the week at 3-3, but that is not going to happen. I know being a Cub fan is tough, but when even SI picks your favorite team to the World Series, you have reason to hope. Well, enough venting on the Cubs. Time to watch the Stros vs. Cubs today and HOPE for the best.

In the continuing saga of preparing for the little girl, I've realized that there are WAY to many decisions to make! Well, maybe not for normal people, but for obsessive-compulsive perfectionists like myself, it's torture. But don't get me wrong, it's an absolute blessing that I'm in the position to make these decisions!

I was pretty sure that I'd found the perfect crib bedding earlier this week at Blessed Baby (see previous post), but then I went for my consultation at Snug As A Bug, and all bets were off. Now, I've decided to go with the latter. Ugh...Wish I was more decisive!!

We did, however, make some decisions yesterday. We went to Tulsa and ordered our crib and dresser. We also spent an hour and a half beginning a registry at Babies R Us...lots of fun! Darren was a little trigger-happy with the scanner gun! Now I need to get back to Blessed Baby to register, then Wal-Mart and Target. My first shower is just over a month away, on May 15. Guess I'd better give these people some ideas, if they really want to "shower" us! This is LOTS of fun, but leave it to me to worry and get stressed out about it...{shrug}

This is my new "inspiration" fabric swatch...

Her crib...

...and her dresser/changing table.

I'm a total loser...I've become one of those people who carry ultrasound pictures of my unborn child in my purse and post pictures of all the baby stuff I want on the internet.
I know it's being thought by others, so I'm just admitting it!
Don't they always say the "first step is admitting you have a problem"?

Okay, call me crazy, but do girls really need all the PINK??? I'm just not feeling it. We (okay, I) have been looking at nursery bedding and accessories, strollers, carseats, playpens, etc., and I just can't stand all the PINK stuff for girls. I consider myself to be a pretty "girly" girl, but my favorite color is blue, not pink. I guess I'll probably be the only mother-to-be who knows she's expecting a girl, but actually picks out blue, green, and brown baby stuff!

Oh well...

This is a sample of the fabric that I think I'll choose for her crib bedding.
I think it's classic, just like she will be!

Here are the stroller, carseat, and playpen that we are getting for her, too.

Again, notice NO PINK!!

I got this in an e-mail today and it cracked me up (and scared me a little, too).
Thought I'd share it...

While looking at a house, my brother asked the real estate agent which
direction was north because, he explained, he didn't want the sun waking him
up every morning. She asked, "Does the sun rise in the North?". When my
brother explained that the sun rises in the East, and has for sometime, she
shook her head and said, "Oh, I don't keep up with all that stuff."
(I swear I've heard this one in my class!)
